The tasting room exhales its precious fragrances; the soft fruitiness of our Merlots, the citrusy freshness of our Sauvignon Blanc, the touch of spice in our eau-de-vie…
Wine has been made on the site of Château Thénac for over 900 years – first by Benedictine monks and then, after their priory was demolished, winemaking recommenced in 1621. Now, on the 400th anniversary of that date, the Château has decided to celebrate this rich history by releasing a special cuvée. Called 1621 and produced in limited quantity, this unique wine is made from just two plots — one Merlot and one Cabernet Sauvignon – both on the plateau surrounding the Château. The grapes are picked by hand and lovingly crafted in the state-of-the-art cellars into a rich, complex, yet impeccably balanced wine. As part of this celebration of 400 years of history, the Château has partnered with outstanding young artists, to create the label of these limited edition cuvées. The marriage of fine art and fine wine can be traced back through the depths of tome, as can the history of our much loved Château. These special releases are very limited and carry the label designed by the artist and a wine that has taken just 400 years to perfect!

DownloadsMade from a small plot threaded with clay and limestone where the Sémillon matures late. The signature of the great botrytised is a vibrancy that perfectly counterbalances the sweetness. This wine is characterised by notes of apricot, quince and honey.
DownloadsBuilt around a solid Merlot base (which makes up about two thirds of the blend), it’s singled out for the quality of its smooth, luxurious body and intensely fruity notes. It is partly matured in barrels for at least 12 months.
DownloadsThis wine showcases the vivid flavours of the Sauvignon region; jasmine, candied lemons and grapefruit. A delicate gem of a wine, refreshing and created with the utmost aromatic precision. Containing an array of fragrances, it’s perfect for the apéritif and is just what you need for pairing with creative cooking.
